About meI am an associate professor at Swansea University in the Department of Mathematics. I recently held an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship. My CV is available here.
My research interests are:
- Topology of moduli spaces
- Cobordism theory
- Tropical geometry
- Algebraic geometry over the field with one element
I've joined the editorial advisory board for the LMS main publications (Journal, Bulletin, and Proceedings of the LMS). I'll be covering algebraic topology and tropical geometry

Congratulations to Ramses on his PhD
On 6 August 2015 my first PhD student, Ramses Fernandez-Valencia, successfully defended his thesis Topics in 2-dimensional topological conformal field theories. He now returns to his native Barcelona to take up a job in a consultancy firm where he plans to apply topological data analysis techniques to problems in the energy sector. His work at Swansea was funded by my EPSRC grant. While working with me he wrote two papers:
- R. Fernandez-Valencia, On the structure of unoriented topological conformal field theories. arxiv/1503.02465, to appear in AGT.
- R Fernandez-Valencia and J. Giansiracusa, On the Hochschild homology of involutive algebras. arxiv/1505.02219, submitted.
