Rhossili bay
Swansea University
Summer School on Nonlinear Parabolic Equations and Applications

LMS/EPSRC Short Course

Mathematics Department, Swansea University, 7-11 July 2008

The trip will be a circular coastal walk on the Rhossili Beach and Downs of about 3 hours and 5 miles (8 km) long.

The walk begins at Rhossili village. We will climb the hills to reach the highest point in Gower at 633ft (193m), pass several prehistoric burial sites and a wartime radar station on Rhossili Downs, then descent to Burrowes Dunes and Rhossili Beach to return to our starting point in the village of Rhossili.

(Light) walking shoes are absolutely necessary!

We recommend to have a small rucksack containing both sun protection (cream, hat) and a raincoat. The weather often changes unpredictably in the area, which could be also very windy at times.

Itinerary

  2.00pm  Bus leaves University
3.00pm  Start of walk at Rhossili
6.00pm  Returning to Rhossili and refreshments
7.00pm  Dinner at The Worms Head Hotel
10.00pm  Return by bus to University

Alternatives

  1. You may skip the walk and stay at Rhossili village, where you may take a shorter walk along the beach or to the nearby Worms Head and then enjoy yourself in the tea room or the bar. There are few shops and a beautiful 13th century church in the village.
  2. You may also skip the trip completely and stay on campus. Note that in this case you will need to make your own dinner arrangements. Campus refectory on Wednesday evening will be closed!
Hopefully, Rhossili images below will convince you that staying on campus is not an option.
